As completely adhering to one theoretical paradigm is not believed to be useful, nurses can employ numerous distinct concepts to improve their knowledge. With regard to nursing growth and learning, practice and experience are crucial, but preliminary research and theory are necessary to raise the standard in the field of knowledge.

Nursing theory aids in ensuring that the field of nursing forms a distinct place for itself in the complex and dynamic realm of healthcare professionals. In order to guide meaningful activities in the nursing sector, including how to treat people, interact with patient’s relatives, and arrange nursing tasks, a set of principles and procedures known as nursing theory was established (Ohio University, 2021). Nursing theory provides nurses with the knowledge foundation, guides research, and acts as a justification or scientific basis for care processes (Ohio University, 2021). Hence, in case nursing or medical specialists begin with the stage of research, the initial ground for obtaining knowledge is established since a proper scientific review encompasses the key and systematic theoretical notions.

Under the condition that individuals start with practice in nursing, it is feasible to state that the potential amount of knowledge received can be diminished due to the absence of a theoretical background. Nursing models include philosophical and moral viewpoints that affect how nursing professionals approach knowledge and practice (Chapman, 2018). It is suggested that nursing cannot exist as a unique profession without a separate body of knowledge, subsequently organized into a practice methodology that can be used to assess nursing actions and treatments (Chapman, 2018). Adding further levels of complexity, theoretical research that incorporates nurses’ particular and other related fields of healthcare helps them acquire knowledge for practice (Chapman, 2018). Thus, practice is essential in terms of nursing education and development; at the same time, initial research and theory are required to increase the level of knowledge.

In fact, nurse researchers may examine and modify the manner in which they use theory to direct their study and produce publications, which can lead to an advancement in knowledge. Scholars may recognize how a single theory might direct scientists as they expand their comprehension of a certain situation and behavior. As a result, academics and practitioners may collaborate to elaborate theory and assess its value. It is conceivable to promote a theorizing approach to nursing that improves interpretations of nursing issues and the practice environment (Reed, 2022). When designing interventions, public health professionals should carefully consider research-based evidence; however, for interventions to be beneficial, they necessarily need to be well-planned. Prior to practice, thorough research is recommended since the further level of knowledge, which directly impacts practice, can be incomplete. The knowledge base that supports the profession grows depending on the requirement that theoretical research is conducted before the practical part of a procedure.

To summarize, nursing theory aims to guarantee that the profession of nursing occupies a unique niche for itself in the intricate and rapidly changing domain of healthcare professionals. The foundation for knowledge is set when nursing or medical professionals start the research phase since a thorough scientific evaluation includes fundamental and methodical theoretical ideas. In terms of nursing education and growth, practice is crucial, but beginning research and theory are necessary to raise the bar in terms of knowledge. Public health practitioners should carefully evaluate research-based evidence when developing interventions. It is advised to conduct extensive study before practicing since the additional degree of information, which directly affects practice, may be lacking.
