The ADDIE Model: Instruction Design and Frameworks

Summary

The ADDIE model is the simplest instructional design in a nursing curriculum that remains on point. The model addresses the nursing curriculum in five teaching steps that involve training and learning. The model applies to e-learning and physical learning activities because it starts with a comprehensive analysis of the learning material. Precisely, the model encompasses other steps like design, development, implementation, and evaluation of the newly introduced caring curriculum.

Analysis

Through the ADDIE framework, educators determine the areas be addressed in the nursing program. The analysis focuses on the teaching media, learning needs, characteristics, and motivation (Alinezhad Nameghi et al., 2021). Therefore, the analyzing educator can express an interest basic in nursing care and use the student’s insights to design personalized modules for the curriculum. Additionally, educators can use the competency skill check-off tests in information processing, behavioral improvement, and social interaction through the curriculum design.

Design

Using the ADDIE framework, the designing stage is equipped with tools to quickly set learning objectives and desired content. ADDIE’s framework is easily applied and followed when deciding on the education stages, strategies, and the panels to be involved (Alinezhad Nameghi et al., 2021). At the objective’s identification phase, educators and the team of students understand the philosophy of their class requirements first and share ideas to improve the quality of nursing care. The determination of course unit learning strategies and evaluation methods also involves role modeling and reflections on the provisions of the ADDIE framework.

Development

The ADDIE framework allows educators to develop the learning materials and content in several steps. First, one designs the short notes while training the students and videos sharable to them during the module. Additionally, the educator sets audio recordings that develop the content used in the class (Alinezhad Nameghi et al., 2021). The educator determines the quizzes relevant to the defined content with these resources. One also needs to develop the timeframes to run the curriculum successfully.

Implementation

Implementing insights from the ADDIE framework is interesting as it engages research assistants from healthcare facilities. The researchers implement the training strategies set and offer all the designed content to the learners. Additionally, the team seeks permission from the relevant authorities and uses the authorized facilities only. The educator holds a meeting with the management to ease the learning process and break down all study procedures (Alinezhad Nameghi et al., 2021). The ADDIE framework allows incorporating physical and online education through discussion boards and can compensate for the nurse’s free time.

Evaluation

Having designed and implemented the nursing course, the educator develops reflection quizzes and course evaluation questionnaires for the class. Additionally, the educator identifies the focus groups and sends invitations to the desired members (Alinezhad Nameghi et al., 2021). In the focus groups, the educator sends self-evaluation tests to determine exemplary nurses’ and patients’ strengths and weaknesses. Through these evaluations, the educator can add more skills and dismiss the uncaring behaviors exhibited by the scholars.

I envision using ADDIE instructional design model while developing a nursing curriculum because it is efficient for educators to design lessons that offer high-quality learning. ADDIE framework defines the learning objectives making it easier to develop coherent content. Additionally, the model measures and organizes the workload to be handled by both the educator and students. Besides, it incorporates appropriate student activities and enhances visualization in the training media (Alinezhad Nameghi et al., 2021). While the ADDIE framework has many advantages, its major flaw is that it consumes too much time when educators design and implement systematic content.

In conclusion, following the ADDIE framework simplifies curriculum design and makes its structure more convenient. In most cases, nursing classes have most members being experienced in holding constructive group discussions, simulations, and educative games. ADDIE model allows the designation of stages, strategies, and training to be implemented as per the content of the course. The simple organization of this model subdues the perceived disadvantages and makes it the most appropriate instructional design for skills evaluation.
