The SBAR project is significant as through the doctor of nursing practice (DNP), students are equipped with an opportunity to systematically transform their best theoretical evidence into practice (American Association of Colleges of Nursing, 2006). On the other hand, the AONE Nurse Executive Competencies outlines the transitions that should be adopted in the healthcare leadership system and the key processes and dimensions essential in realizing success in the executive sector. The eight DNP steps that were used in this SBAR project that used the CEX tool entailed identification and approval of the area of interest, writing a proposal, developing a timeline, acquiring the institutional review approval, implementing the project, writing of the SBAR project, oral presentation and disseminating the final project (American Association of Colleges of Nursing, 2006). The AONE nurse executive competencies aim to enhance relationships and communication, develop knowledge of the healthcare environment, understand leadership, personal and professional accountability, and improve business skills. This report will evaluate how I met the 8 DNP essential and the 5 AONE competencies in the SBAR project.
In meeting the 8 DNP essentials, we determined the significance and nature of the healthcare delivery phenomenon by describing the advanced strategies and actions to enhance healthcare delivery. Then, we evaluated and developed the healthcare delivery approaches that would meet the current and future needs of the patient’s population with basins on various findings (American Association of Colleges of Nursing, 2006). The project monitored the budgets and analyzed the cost-effectiveness of the initiative while evaluating the risks and potential improvements. We then used various analytical approaches to appraise existing literature for the project. The step was followed by evaluating, directing, and designing improvement methodologies to enhance patient-centered care. I met with nurse leaders to collect appropriate and accurate data for generating evidence for nursing practice.
In addition, I observed nurses going about their daily duties to predict and evaluate the outcomes accurately. Later on, I met the educating nurse staff to analyze the consumer health information sources for accuracy. I held Zoom meetings to advocate for ethical policies, equity, and social justice and evaluating health policy proposals. During the project, I also lead the interprofessional teams in a webinar meeting to analyze the various organizational issues and complex practices (American Association of Colleges of Nursing, 2006). We held several meetings with nurse leaders to evaluate care delivery models and strategies by incorporating critical aspects of health and cultural and environmental dimensions. Lastly, I conducted a systematic and comprehensive assessment by collecting data at the end of a shift at the bedside and observing nurses while giving services in diverse and culturally sensitive approaches.
Consequently, while doing the project, I ensured that all the 5 AONE competencies were met by producing persuasive written and cogent materials that addressed organizational, healthcare, and nursing issues related to relationship building (American Organization of Nurse Executives, 2005). I then collaborated with nursing programs in the provision of the required recourses. I also met with nurse leaders to evaluate their clinical practice knowledge, delivery models, healthcare economics, healthcare policies, and patient safety. Such aspects are essential in identifying and understanding the healthcare environment.
During the project, I also held zoom meetings with leaders due to the impacts of COVID-19 to evaluate their foundation thinking skills. These personal journey disciplines entailed their failures and setbacks and successful history in the nursing professionalism (American Organization of Nurse Executives, 2005). I sought to understand their weaknesses and strength and if they occasionally seek mentorship from respected colleagues. In understanding professionalism, I sort to evaluate professional and personal accountability in a webinar meeting on aspects related to career planning, ethics, advocacy, evidence-based management, and clinical practices (American Organization of Nurse Executives, 2005). Lastly, on business skills, I met with the manager to seek how they carry out the financial management, a champion for a diverse workforce in HRM, strategic management plans, marketing, and how they manage information and technology.
