Introduction

The creation of health policies is a complex and challenging undertaking that calls for careful consideration of many different aspects, including the social, economic, and political backdrop of a nation. Many nations seek inspiration from other countries when it comes to health care policy, adopting the successful policies and programs put in place in other nations. The Affordable Care Act’s provisions were developed using lessons learned from other nations’ healthcare systems, including those in Canada, Switzerland, Germany, the United Kingdom, and other countries.

Impact of Other Countries on the Affordable Care Act

Medicine is one of the most important and old sciences in the history of mankind. It was mentioned back in the Bible, in the quote where doctors embalmed the body of Father Joseph (Bible, 2023). Given the importance and historicity of this field, the state must ensure that everyone can benefit from its services, and the ACA is an example of this. The law itself came into being during President Barack Obama’s 2010 presidency. The legislation broke new ground by introducing a mandate for health insurance and creating insurance exchanges (Gordon, 2013). The healthcare system in Germany is one of the major instances of a policy that may have inspired the Affordable Care Act. A combination of public and private insurance alternatives is possible because of Germany’s decentralized healthcare system (International Trade Administration, 2022).

Likewise, the Affordable Care Act established a market for health insurance policies that could be purchased by citizens or through companies and included government subsidies for those who could not afford insurance on their own.

The creation of the National Health Service is another example of a state that was inspired by the experiences of other countries in crafting this law. The process that gives tax credits and subsidies to people with middle-class or low-income status is the service’s principal purpose (Davalon, 2022). It is also worth mentioning that lawmakers when creating the law, borrowed some ideas from other countries.

Conclusion

In conclusion, it is worth mentioning that the development of any bill is a long, gradual process and integration that requires consideration of different perspectives. The Affordable Care Act is the very example of how a state can learn from the successes and failures of other states to develop new ways of dealing with possible problems and integrate into its own country. The Act aimed to provide citizens with affordable, quality healthcare that any economic class in the country could afford.
