Nursing Theory and Nursing Philosophy
Nursing theory and a nurse’s own nursing philosophy are inextricably linked. A nursing theory, often known as a nursing model, is designed to help nurses provide proper patient care (Younas & Quennell, 2019). These concepts frequently describe the nursing practice, define the role of nurses, and define the best methods to help nurses become the best healthcare providers (Younas & Quennell, 2019). Numerous nursing theories are based on the experiences of nurses over the course of their careers, along with approaches established during their regular practice (Younas & Quennell, 2019). Academic research is then provided to support these notions. Specific ideas are regarded as acceptable models of nursing by the healthcare field and can even be introduced to nursing students as regular nursing processes in certain nursing scenarios.
A nursing philosophy is a perspective on nursing that is generally developed by individual nurses in their regular experiences at the workplace. A nurse’s philosophy of nursing explains what they believe nursing is, the part nursing plays in the medical industry, and how they communicate with patients (Schmitz et al., 2017). A philosophy of nursing also covers a nurse’s values in relation to nursing practice.
Nursing Theory’s Influence on Nursing Practice
As has been mentioned before, nursing theories are authoritative and tested theories that help nurses in their everyday tasks. Nursing theories serve as the framework for nursing practice and are critical to proper healthcare delivery in this situation (Alejandro, 2017). Nursing theories provide ideas as to how specific data must be collected and how patient care should be performed.
In the first situation, nursing theories might navigate nurses in collecting, analyzing, and understanding retrieved data or evidence. In the second situation, nursing theories assist nurses in evaluating patient care and basing nursing actions on observations. With the help of nursing theories, nurses are able to provide their patients with high-quality care (Alejandro, 2017). The theories might also provide nurses with a reason to make specific decisions.
